The Disney parks quickly moved into the 21st Century with the launch of their MagicBands. But what is a Disney MagicBand? How do they work? These bracelets look like an activity tracker, but work as your park ticket, your room key, your meal plan and your payment method (if you’d like).

MagicBands as Payment Method
You can connect a credit card to your MagicBand and pay for purchases throughout the parks and resorts with just a swipe of your wrist. You can link a card in the My Disney Experience app or at the front desk of your hotel.
Using MagicBands in the Parks
Your MagicBand is your ticket to get into the park. You’ll scan your MagicBand at the park’s entrance and be also give an electronic fingerprint (so that your MagicBand can only be used by you). If you purchase a Disney Dining Plan, you’ll pay for meals and snacks with your MagicBand. If you make FastPass+ reservations for rides in the parks, you’ll gain access to the FastPass+ line with your MagicBand. Read more about FastPass+ here!
MagicBands at Your Resort
How does your MagicBand work at your Disney Resort? It’s not only your room key but also grants you entrance to the pool, the laundry room, the fitness center and other things reserved for guests.
Customize Your MagicBand!
The best part? They’re really customizable! You’ll get a solid color MagicBand for each person in your party, included in the price of your vacation package. You’ll be able to add text to the inside of the bracelet. This is helpful to add names and dates to each bracelet. If two people want pink bracelets, just add names! If you go to Disney every year and want to remember which bracelet is from which trip, just add dates!
A recent addition to the MagicBand options: When selecting your free MagicBand, you can upgrade to a specialty design for $10! These are the same MagicBands you could purchase in the parks or at the Disney Store, but instead of $30+ they’re just a $10 upgrade charge! Check out some of my favorite specialty MagicBands here.
The worst part of Disney MagicBands? They don’t work in the “real” world. After a long stay at Walt Disney World, you may find yourself trying to pay at Target with your FitBit… that won’t work. Trust me; I know from experience.
See you soon, friend.
